Office Admin Jobs Great for BackPackers

Since it is mostly large companies that hire temps – temporary office staff – most of these kinds of jobs will be found in the capital cities where the largest companies are located. Even though they may have smaller offices in other, smaller towns, their headquarters are in the capital cities. Here you’ll find the large office complexes that hire many people and usually have a high turnover of staff.

However, there are still quite a lot of opportunities in the less hectic larger metropolitan areas such as Newcastle and Wollongong (NSW), the Gold Coast (QLD), Geelong in Victoria and even Hobart (TAS). Hobart is the capital of Tasmania, but does not have the same hustle and bustle as other capital cities due to a more laid-back lifestyle.

This gives the person desiring to see something of the country an ideal chance to do so without breaking their budget as they can work their way around Australia and still have plenty of time to see the country outside of capital cities as they pass through from one to another. In fact, once they have saved up enough, they may be able to holiday in or hike around the country in between their office jobs.

To find these office admin jobs you will need to register with an employment agency that specializes in placing temps. But don’t wait until you arrive in Australia before you register. Do it before you even leave your home. Then as soon as you arrive, you’ll be able to go in for a screening interview. This will allow the agency to find out about all your work preferences and experience, so that they can match you with an office job that is suitable. You may need to sit for some assessment tests – such as for typing speed and accuracy – and you may also need to give the names of referees.

The hours of office admin jobs in Australia are normally from 8.30-5.30 with half an hour unpaid lunch break, however it can vary for different types of office jobs. In some cases there is an hour for lunch, while in others there may be a later start and finish time.

So, during this exciting time of your life you may well find yourself at the top of a skyscraper one week and the next week you’ve jetted to another job where you may be located on a beach front or somewhere with views of the harbour. All is enjoyable – just remember to take your camera so you can email pics to the folks back home.
